WLD: Funding Flips Positive at $0.39 as Apple-OpenAI Suit Adds Headline Risk

WLD prints $0.3908, up 2.46% on the day, with 24-hour turnover of $185.3 million and open interest at $88.5 million per COINOTAG DATA. The intraday range spans $0.3780 to $0.3967 — a 4.95% band — while the funding rate has flipped positive to +0.0016%, meaning longs are now paying shorts despite the token’s larger downtrend.

Structure: mixed technicals, wide support/resistance grid

The 14-period RSI sits at 41.6, below the neutral 50 line but clear of oversold territory. The daily pivot is calculated at $0.3848, with the trend still flagged bearish on that timeframe.

Resistance stacks at $0.4094, $0.4292 and $0.4563. Support layers sit at $0.3777, $0.3111 and $0.2833 — a spread wide enough to absorb volatility without triggering a structural break in either direction. WLD remains well off its all-time high.

The trigger: Apple sues OpenAI over trade secrets

On July 10, Apple filed a trade-secret complaint against OpenAI and its hardware unit io Products in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The suit alleges misappropriation of confidential designs, supplier data and engineering files, and names two former Apple staff: Chang Liu, an ex-senior systems electrical engineer who departed in January after eight years and is accused of retaining a company laptop while accessing shared network folders via an unknown authentication gap, and Tang Yew Tan, a 24-year Apple veteran who led iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods design before becoming OpenAI’s chief hardware officer.

The dispute traces to OpenAI’s roughly $6.5 billion acquisition of io Products, the hardware startup co-founded by ex-Apple designer Jony Ive — who is not named as a defendant. Apple states io has since hired over 400 former Apple employees and that it raised concerns with OpenAI in February without a response. Apple is seeking injunctive relief plus damages to be determined at trial.

Second Altman-adjacent suit in weeks

The filing lands weeks after a judge dismissed Elon Musk’s xAI trade-secret suit against OpenAI with prejudice on June 15, following a California jury’s rejection of a related mission-betrayal claim in under two hours on statute-of-limitations grounds. Apple and OpenAI remain commercial partners regardless — ChatGPT is integrated into Apple devices, with a GPT-5 upgrade expected later this year.

WLD isn’t named anywhere in Apple’s complaint, so direct legal exposure reads as minimal. But sentiment on Altman-linked tokens has historically tracked OpenAI headline flow rather than fundamentals, and a prolonged discovery process could keep the asset in the news cycle for reasons entirely outside its own on-chain activity — worth watching alongside the funding flip as a positioning signal.
