Sonic: Price Bounce vs On-Chain Reality — Active Users Down Tenfold From Peak, Near 6,400
On-chain transactions nearly doubled, but Sonic's daily active users remain far below June's peak, raising doubts about the rally.

Sonic (S) has posted a sharp gain over the past day, but the move appears to rest on a fragile foundation, according to AMBCrypto. The token’s rebound is being driven by a spike in on-chain transactions and spot volume rather than a sustained return of users, and the network’s daily active user count remains far below where it stood just a month ago.
Transactions doubled, but the 30-day trend still points down
On-chain transactions on Sonic climbed from 128,600 to 238,400 over the recent window, according to data cited by AMBCrypto, nearly doubling and helping push the price higher. Most of that activity flowed through the spot market, where chain spot volume rose from $678,600 on June 30 to $1.6 million at the time of reporting, a roughly 2.35-times increase.
Despite the short-term jump, the broader 30-day picture tells a different story. Chain transactions and on-chain spot volume are down 65% and 31.6%, respectively, over that longer period, which AMBCrypto says places Sonic’s network performance in a recovery phase rather than a confirmed rally.
User base has not followed the price higher
Daily active users on Sonic have stayed largely flat through the recent price move, ranging between 7,600 and 6,400 from June 25 to the latest reading. That figure is a fraction of the 62,200 daily active users the network recorded at its peak on June 4, meaning participation has fallen nearly tenfold since then.
AMBCrypto notes that such thin activity suggests only a limited pool of participants is currently transacting on the chain, even as prices tick up. The report characterizes current on-chain activity as sufficient to hold a price floor, but not strong enough to spark a larger rally.
Data from the perpetual futures market for S adds further context. The funding rate stood at 0.0052% at press time, which AMBCrypto interprets as a sign that perpetual traders are positioned for more upside, even if that momentum proves short-lived.
Leadership shakeup and halted token issuance reshape Sonic’s outlook
The price action follows a significant governance overhaul at Sonic Labs, the team behind the token. Longtime board members Andre Cronje, Michael Kong, and David Richardson have resigned, with Matt Visser stepping in as chief executive, according to AMBCrypto. By the time those resignations took effect, S had already fallen roughly 97% from its January 2025 peak of $1.03.
Alongside the leadership changes, Sonic Labs has halted its scheduled annual mint of 47.6 million S tokens, equal to 1.5% of total supply. The move marks a step back from the yearly inflation schedule the project began issuing in 2025, and could ease some sell pressure on the token going forward even as user engagement remains subdued.
