Numerai’s Third Open-Market NMR Buy Lifts Yearly Total to $3.2M as AUM Hits $700M
Numerai bought $1.2M more NMR via Coinbase Institutional, bringing treasury repurchases to $3.2M since July 2025 as fund AUM grew to $700M.

Numerai has executed a third open-market purchase of its Numeraire (NMR) token, buying $1.2 million worth of the asset and pushing its cumulative buyback spend to $3.2 million over the past twelve months. The decentralized hedge fund confirmed the trade was routed through Coinbase Institutional at or near the bid price, worked over several weeks to limit market impact — the same execution method used in its two prior repurchases.
Unlike the previous two buyback announcements, which were disclosed as they occurred, this third purchase had already been completed by the time Numerai went public with the news on July 17. The firm did not disclose the average execution price or the exact NMR quantity acquired in this tranche.
Treasury math: 3.1 million NMR against an 11 million cap
NMR is a fixed-supply Ethereum token capped at 11 million units. Numerai said its treasury held approximately 3.1 million NMR before this latest purchase — a balance the firm draws down continuously to fund tournament rewards and staking payouts to its network of independent data scientists.
Because those emissions steadily deplete treasury holdings, Numerai has structured the three buybacks since July 2025 as a replenishment mechanism, pulling NMR back from the open market rather than minting or reallocating supply. The $3.2 million spent across the three tranches represents a direct transfer of capital from Numerai’s balance sheet into circulating NMR liquidity, effectively tightening float held outside the treasury.
Staking incentives tied to a growing Meta Model
NMR’s core utility is staking: contributors lock the token against their machine-learning models, earning additional NMR when predictions outperform on future market data and losing stake when they underperform. Numerai says the resulting Stake-Weighted Meta Model continues to outperform the firm’s internal benchmark models, the metric it uses to justify continued treasury spend on the incentive system.
Since the first buyback was announced in July 2025, Numerai’s active account base has more than doubled and submission volume has continued to climb. The platform has also rolled out new infrastructure — Numerai Skills, a Model Context Protocol (MCP), and Atomic Blockchain Staking — designed to let AI systems participate in the tournament with less manual intervention, a shift toward increasingly autonomous model submission and staking.
AUM climbs to $700M
Numerai reports it now manages approximately $700 million in assets under management, up from roughly $560 million at the end of 2025 — a gain of about 25% over roughly six months. The firm frames the buyback program as running parallel to that AUM growth, tying treasury purchases to the expansion of both the underlying hedge fund and its contributor network.
Numerai, founded in 2015 and based in San Francisco, runs an open competition in which data scientists submit equity market signals that are aggregated into a single Meta Model used to trade global stocks. The company reiterated that the buyback commentary does not constitute an offer to sell securities or interests in any fund managed by Numerai GP, LLC, and that past performance is not indicative of future results.
