The vulnerability being priced in
Elliptic-curve cryptography underpins signature schemes across most major chains. Sufficiently powerful quantum computers are expected to be capable of breaking that math, which is why regulators and standards bodies globally have been flagging a “harvest now, decrypt later” risk: adversaries capture encrypted data or transaction records today, then decrypt them once quantum hardware catches up.
France’s certification deadline converts that theoretical exposure into a hard regulatory filter. Systems that can’t prove quantum resistance by 2027 lose eligibility for government certification — a signal that could extend into procurement decisions for institutional and government-linked use cases in the country.

What is clear is the direction of travel: quantum readiness is shifting from a theoretical concern to a baseline requirement for critical digital infrastructure in at least one G7 jurisdiction.
