Treasuries Added 110K BTC in Q2 Near the Top — Cost Basis Now Underwater at $64K
Corporate BTC holdings topped 1.26M coins after a 1.8x quarterly jump, but the buying clustered near May's $82K high, not current spot.

Corporate balance sheets added 110,000 BTC in Q2 2026, according to BitcoinTreasuries data cited by Coin Bureau — a 1.8x increase over the combined total of the prior two quarters. Public-company holdings now sit above 1.26 million BTC, or more than 6% of circulating supply.
Accumulation Timed to the Local Top
The problem for treasury desks is timing. CoinGecko data shows BTC spiking to $82,000 in May 2026 on the back of a brief US-Iran ceasefire that temporarily compressed the market’s geopolitical risk premium. Much of the 110,000 BTC logged in Q2 was almost certainly bought into that spike.
Spot is now struggling to hold $64,000 — down sharply from the May peak and well off the $126,080 all-time high printed in 2025, a cycle top that corporate treasury demand itself helped drive. The gap between accumulation price and current spot puts a meaningful slice of Q2’s 110,000 BTC in unrealized loss territory.
Macro Backdrop Has Turned Since the Buying
Conditions have deteriorated since the Q2 print. The US-Iran ceasefire that briefly lifted risk assets has broken down, and the conflict has re-escalated. US inflation rose to 4.2% in May 2026, and the Fed responded by holding rates steady rather than cutting — removing a liquidity tailwind markets had been pricing in.
Traders are now factoring in the possibility of a further hike later this year, a reversal from the cut expectations priced earlier in Q2. Higher-for-longer policy tends to squeeze the liquidity pool available for speculative allocations, and that shift has left BTC’s price action disconnected from the pace of corporate buying seen just weeks earlier.
What This Means for Flow-Tracking
The divergence between a record 110,000 BTC quarterly add and a 20%+ drawdown from the May high exposes a structural feature of treasury-driven demand: purchases are lumpy, disclosed with a lag, and cluster around momentum rather than value entries. When that momentum breaks, as it has since May, treasuries are left holding cost bases stacked above spot.
The figure worth tracking from here isn’t the 110,000 BTC headline number itself but whether corporate buyers re-enter below $64,000. Fresh accumulation at these levels would signal treasuries treating the pullback as a discount; a pause would confirm Q2’s pace was largely a ceasefire-driven momentum chase that has since faded.
