Bybit’s Self-Reported Data: BTC Spot Slippage as Low as 0.01 bps on $10K Orders

Bybit says its BTC/USDT spot market delivered materially tighter execution than two unnamed rival exchanges in the first quarter of 2026, according to an internal analysis the exchange published this week. On simulated $10,000 orders, Bybit reports average slippage of 0.01 basis points, versus 0.02 bps and 0.06 bps at the two comparison venues — a gap of roughly 52% and 84%, respectively.
The figures come from a self-published methodology attributed to Bybit’s Rapid Price Improvement (RPI) mechanism, a proprietary execution layer the exchange says routes eligible spot orders to a dedicated pool of liquidity providers quoting inside the visible bid-ask spread. Bybit, which describes itself as the world’s second-largest exchange by trading volume, framed the release as evidence that execution quality — not just headline liquidity or fee schedules — is becoming a differentiator for traders sizing up venues.
Depth numbers behind the slippage claim
Bybit’s report ties the slippage gap to executable depth. Within a 5-basis-point spread, the exchange says its BTC/USDT book averaged $10.4 million in executable liquidity during Q1 2026, against $5.4 million and $1.9 million at the two rival venues referred to only as “Exchange A” and “Exchange B.” Widening the band to 10 basis points, Bybit’s depth reached $15.1 million versus $11.4 million and $3.6 million respectively.
The advantage held across order sizes, per the release, from $10,000 tickets up to $1 million simulated trades — a range spanning retail flow through institutional block size. Bybit argues the consistency points to a structural edge rather than a result specific to any single order size or market condition.
What the mechanism actually does
RPI is modeled on retail price-improvement frameworks common in traditional equity markets, where orders are matched off the displayed book at prices better than the public quote. Bybit says it extends RPI eligibility across BTC and major USD stablecoin pairs rather than restricting it to select institutional clients, and makes the underlying liquidity visible through its Web platform, mobile app, and a public RPI Orderbook API that lets clients fold the data into their own execution analysis.
“Our focus is not simply increasing displayed liquidity but improving the prices users actually receive when trades are executed,” said Sean Ballard, Bybit’s Head of Derivatives and Institutional Business, Trading Risk. “Execution quality has become one of the most meaningful measures of exchange performance.”
A self-reported benchmark, with caveats
The comparison is Bybit’s own, and the two competing venues are unnamed rather than independently identified, which limits how the figures can be verified against third-party liquidity trackers. Bybit itself notes that most public exchange-ranking methodologies rely on standard order-book APIs and may not capture off-book, price-improvement liquidity like RPI — an argument that also underlines why its own numbers look favorable relative to conventional depth snapshots.
For traders and desks evaluating routing decisions, the takeaway is directional rather than conclusive: Bybit is positioning execution quality — measured in fractions of a basis point — as a competitive axis alongside fees and headline volume, at a time when institutional flow increasingly prices venues on realized slippage rather than quoted spreads alone.
