BTC: $4.5B ETF Exodus Meets MVRV Floor Signal as Desks Split on Bottom

Bitcoin is currently pricing roughly 53% below its October 2025 all-time high of $126,272, and the on-chain data set is sending a mixed but notable signal: the MVRV Z-Score has fallen into a zone historically associated with cycle-bottom undervaluation, while spot price has repeatedly probed the 200-week moving average — a level that has functioned as structural support in prior drawdowns.

Flow data tells a rougher story

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs bled roughly $4.5 billion net in June, the worst monthly outflow reading on record for the product category. The redemption wave landed alongside a broader risk-off rotation triggered by a late-June selloff in AI and semiconductor equities, which pulled liquidity out of high-beta assets including crypto more broadly.

Strategy — the corporate treasury formerly known as MicroStrategy — disclosed its first Bitcoin sale in years during that same window. The size was immaterial against its total stack, but the signaling effect was outsized given the firm’s multi-year record as a structural non-seller. Standard Chartered’s Geoffrey Kendrick flagged the disclosure in a client note: “The timing of the sale was a shame.”

Targets diverge by $18K

Desk positioning is split on where this resolves. Standard Chartered is holding a $100,000 year-end target. Citi has trimmed its 12-month target to $82,000, pointing to continued ETF outflows and stalled progress on U.S. crypto legislation as the drivers behind the cut.

Prediction markets, meanwhile, are pricing close to even odds that Bitcoin breaks below $50,000 if current support fails. Commentator Peter Schiff has reiterated a bear case extending toward $20,000 on a breakdown below that $50,000 level — a scenario that would push the drawdown materially past what most desks currently model.

Cycle timing still points to late 2026

Analysts tracking the four-year halving cadence, including Benjamin Cowen, continue to flag October 2026 as the probable cycle low, implying a fuller recovery doesn’t arrive until late 2026 or early 2027. That timeline suggests the current drawdown — already longer than most spring-era desk models assumed — still has several months of range-bound chop before any directional resolution.

The consensus condition-set for a durable bottom call includes stabilizing ETF flows, weekly closes reclaiming $60,000, reduced liquidation pressure, firmer spot demand, and no hawkish surprise from the Federal Reserve. A stronger dollar and delayed Fed cuts are separately weighing on Bitcoin’s inflation-hedge narrative, adding another variable to an already crowded checklist before positioning shifts back to net-long.
