BNB Chain Targets 100K TPS, Kills Public Mempool as BNB Slips 6% Monthly

BNB Chain announced Wednesday it is building a new Layer 1 blockchain purpose-built for agentic trading, targeting sub-50-millisecond transaction confirmation and throughput above 100,000 transactions per second, according to a statement from BNB Chain developers cited by Watcher.Guru. The announcement lands as BNB itself trades down 2.8% on the day and nearly 6% over the trailing month, putting the network’s performance roadmap and its native token’s price action on divergent tracks.

The new chain is scheduled to reach testnet by late 2026. Developers say it will also target sub-second block finality, a specification aimed squarely at automated trading systems and AI agents that require deterministic, low-latency execution rather than the variable confirmation windows typical of general-purpose smart contract chains.

Mempool removal and the TxStream mechanism

The most consequential architectural change is the elimination of the traditional public mempool. In its place, BNB Chain is introducing “TxStream,” a transmission mechanism that routes transactions directly to block producers rather than broadcasting them to a visible pending pool.

For traders and MEV desks, this is the detail that matters most. Public mempools are the primary vector for sandwich attacks and front-running, since searchers can observe pending transactions and insert their own ahead of or around them. By routing order flow privately to block producers, BNB Chain is effectively closing off the visibility layer that MEV extraction strategies depend on — a design choice that mirrors private order-flow and encrypted mempool experiments seen elsewhere in the industry, but applied here specifically to support agentic, machine-driven trading at scale.

Throughput claims against a six-month roadmap

BNB Chain developers framed the announcement as the continuation of a roadmap set six months earlier. “Six months ago, BNB Chain set three priorities for BSC: speed, throughput, and protocol stability,” the developers wrote in a statement. “This roadmap opens with the receipts and closes with what comes next—a second half focused on doubling performance again, and an architecture designed for the decade ahead.”

The 100,000 TPS target is to be reached via parallel transaction processing and reworked data storage and verification methods, according to the developers. No independent benchmark or third-party audit of these throughput figures has been published yet, and the testnet — not mainnet — is the near-term milestone, meaning the performance claims remain unverified in production conditions.

BNB price action decoupled from the announcement

Despite the infrastructure news, BNB’s spot price showed no immediate positive reaction, down 2.8% intraday and down nearly 6% on a 30-day basis at the time of reporting. That divergence is consistent with a broader pattern this cycle in which layer-1 roadmap announcements and technical upgrades have failed to translate into short-term token appreciation, as traders increasingly price infrastructure narratives separately from spot flows.

BNB Chain’s move also places it among a growing list of blockchain and technology firms building infrastructure specifically for AI agents capable of autonomously moving funds and executing trades, a segment that has drawn increasing developer attention but has yet to produce a dominant, battle-tested standard.
